I don’t know about you but I’ve always enjoyed hearing other labour & delivery stories. Especially before I knew what to expect. Now that I’ve had my first child I am truly amazed with what your body can handle!
It all started on November 4th ~ I started leaking… So I called my doctor to make sure I wasn’t leaking fluid. I ended up going to the hospital to get a stress test & fluid swab to make sure it wasn’t the babies fluid. Everything came back all good so we went home!
November 5th ~ Went to the hospital again because I was still leaking. The test came back negative. I was 1-2cm dilated. Leaking was honestly annoying because it was enough to have to change my underwear. Since everything was moist ( ewww, but I’m keeping it real. ) down there my lady parts ended up getting irritated since I have sensitive skin! Ugh it was so frustrating & uncomfortable. I had very mild cramping & a little lower back pain.
November 6th ~ I woke up with what I think could of been my “bloody show” But at the time I wasn’t completely sure what was going on.
November 8th ~ Still leaking… My down there is very irritated. SO much so I ended up getting monistat cream because it felt like a yeast infection. Went back to the hospital to get all checked out again. The test came back negative. So they tested again & that test came back positive but they still couldn’t really give any answers especially since the monistat cream could change my PH levels. We went home again. They told me to come back if I felt more leaks just to be on the safe side. I did kind of feel silly going back to the hospital but the nurses assured me to keep coming back. At 9:30pm a felt the biggest leak & we decided to go back to the hospital to get monitored. Nothing really came back. I had some lower back pain that comes & goes. Got home around 11:00pm put some monistat cream on & tried to get some sleep.
November 9th ~ Around 12:00am I was experiencing back pain that comes & goes. It was getting pretty painful so I had to breath through it. 1:00am my contractions became more painful. But at the time I didn’t really know if they were contractions or not. I didn’t want to go back to the hospital! At 1:48am I took a Tylenol & gravel. They gave it to me at the hospital to take home. My Husband started timing my contractions & I progress pretty quickly so he recommended we go to the hospital! By the time we got to the hospital it was around 3:00am they checked me & I was 6cm dilated. Honestly, I was shocked! I thought they were going to say I was around 3 or 4cm dilated. I was beyond happy when I found out I was 6cm. The nurse asked me what my birth plan was… I said epidural! By the time I got the epidural I was 8cm dilated. Epidurals are truly amazing! At 9:30am I started pushing & Dawson was born at 11:03am!
So yes. Contractions are super painful. Nothing you do takes the pain away. But I was genuinely amazed how your body just handles it.
